4 Essentials for Healthy Summer Skin

As the seasons change, so does our skin. With the summer weather comes warmer temperatures, stronger sun, and drier air; All which affect the composition of our skin. Add these 4 beauty essentials to your routine, to keep your skin healthy, hydrated and glowing.

1. Sweat
One of the benefits of warmer temperatures is that it is easier for our bodies to produce sweat. I know that it may sound crazy but sweat can actually be beneficial to our skin. When we sweat, our pores open up and release any toxins that may have built up inside them. Through sweating, we are able to purge these toxins and that can help clear clog pores. Sweat can also be hydrating to the skin. All water hydrates and the minerals and salt released from sweat naturally exfoliate dry skin. So, get your buddhi moving!

2. Hydrate
Hydrating is more than just drinking 10 glasses of water a day. You also need to keep your skin hydrated. During the summer, you actually produce excess oil on the skin. And although it may seem contradictory, it is dehydration that is the cause for more oil production. When it is hot and skin appears to be greasier, the key to skin hydration is balance. Rather than using heavy body butters and creams, try a natural, plant or seed based, light weight oil. Oils are not only great for your body, but also for your face. Oils actually lock moisture into your skin and a few drops is all you need. I recommend Tamanu, Rosehip and Jojoba oils. 3. Exfoliate
A must for scrubbing away dead skin cells and aiding in skin renewal. One thing to note is that exfoliation methods vary by skin type. Those with more sensitive skin should always use caution in order to avoid irritation or breakouts.
For your body, a simple epsom and dead sea salt bath in warm water works wonders for not only exfoliation but also detoxifying the skin. For those with normal skin, adding a sea salt scrub can leave skin smooth and soft.
For your face, use a Clarisonic facial brush and a light cleanser 3x per week to help keep the tone of your face fresh. I also love a yummy sugar scrub with an oil base. No additional facial brush needed. Just scoop a little into your fingers and apply in a circular motion with light pressure. Here is a simple DIY facial scrub recipe you can make at home.

1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup sea salt
1/4 cup coconut oil
20 drops lavender oil or lemon works great too
Blend in a bowl and store in an airtight glass mason jar.

4. Protect
This one is key. Sunscreen is a top essential for healthy skin. There are so many sun protection options now, so no excuses.
