We have all had “one of those days”. You know, where a cloak of negativity seems to hover around you? It is inescapable. It can manifest through toxic situations,
people vampires you interact with, the constant circulation of anxious energy within your belly. So what can you do to shake it off and come back to the healthy, energetic lightness of being that you are? Here are my top tips for clearing the crappy energy and bringing the beacon of light back home to your body. Where it belongs.
- Palo Santo.
Known as the “Holy Stick” by the Incas, the indigenous people of the Andes. It is a natural wood incense that has been used for centuries. It is a spiritual remedy for purifying and cleansing your surroundings and aids in getting rid of evil spirits. You can purchase the actual sticks and light one end, letting the flame burn for 10-20 seconds so that tip smolders and releases the energy. They are easy to travel with so you can clear the energy wherever you go!
- A HOT yoga session.
I forget who said “Salt water is the best cleansing agent. Whether it be the ocean, tears, or our sweat.” And I have to agree. Few things cleanse my body, mind, and soul of impurities like a 104 degree, humid yoga room. Something about the combination of the heat, my breath, and movement releases tension like no other. Muscles soften and I can feel the toxins rinse out with each bead of sweat.
- Place Black Onyx or Tiger’s Eye in your space.
Black Onyx and Tigers Eye’s are powerful stones known to absorb and transform lower energies. When placed in your space, these stones can absorb negative frequencies, while providing you with support, strength and stable energy. You can place these stones anywhere – your home, office, car. You can also wear a 108 mala necklace made with these stones, to protect you against negativity wherever you are.
- Mindful Meditation.
Taking time to sit still and practice a meditation is perhaps the most effective way to change mindset long term. It is proven that when we set our focus on a positive mantra or chant, our blood pressure lowers and the circulation of blood flow and energy improves. The next time you are stressed or have to deal with a negative situation, practice the Om Shanti Shanti Mantra.
Find a comfortable seat, rest your hands, palm side up (to absorb energy), close your eyes and repeat the mantra “Sarveshaam Svaastir Bhavatu, Sarveshaam Svaastir Bhavatu, Saveshaam Poornam Bhavatu, Sarveshaam Mangalam Bhavatu, Om Shanti, Shanti Shanti”. Continue to repeat until your mind is clear and your body is relaxed. This ancient hindu chant is said to bring peace and tranquility. The phrase translates to “May health abound forever, May peace abound forever, May complete abundance abound forever, May auspiciousness abound forever. Om Peace, Peace Peace.”
- Practice Gratitude.
There are so many ways to do this. You can say good morning to a stranger. Look up and smile at your co-workers. Say “thank you” when your postal carrier drops off your mail. You can silently acknowledge how lucky you are to have a loving family, a funny child, a helpful friend, or a cute pet. You can start a gratitude journal and each day write down one thing that you are grateful for. It can be absolutely anything, there are no rules when giving thanks. It is impossible to be negative and grateful at the same time. Go ahead try it, I will give you a second.
Ultimately, you need to remember that you cannot control other people’s actions or external situations; But you can control how you respond. When you truly understand this, you know that no one else is in control of your actions, happiness, or energy. Namaste and Om Shanti Shanti Shanti.
